As we age, the skin around the lips can pucker and lips themselves can lose volume. Fuller lips are the ambitions of many women, but getting the balance right and ensuring a natural finish is where the skill of the doctor comes into play. Dr Melamed is an expert in lip augmentation, with over 17 years of experience.

Fuller lips give a youthful, sensual, and appealing look to the face. Over the years, sun exposure, smoking, and dry skin may cause lips to look dull, lined and thin. An obvious cupids bow over the top lip can open the face and makes you appear more smiley and young. Using a range of specialized techniques, Dr Melamed can reverse the apparent aging of the lips and deliver beautifully natural results.

How does it work?

There are several different ways in which to improve the overall appearance of the lips. Firstly, at home – ensure that you drink plenty of water, don’t smoke and try to use moisturizing lip products where possible.

Volume Augmentation:

This procedure utilizes state of the art collagen-like fillers (such as Versa, Restylane, and Juvederm) to add volume to the lips. The lips are numbed with either a topical or local numbing based on your comfort level. The treatment is done discretely to ensure an even distribution of volume and a natural shape for your face type.

Correction:

As lips recede and age, defects, wrinkles, and scars may become more apparent. Using a unique combination of dermal fillers, these irregularities are removed. Overall, this drastically improves the texture and symmetry of the lips. In addition to volume augmentation, Botox can be used to reduce the “smoker’s lines” and wrinkles around the lips.

Enhancement:

Specialized lasers can be used to improve the overall appearance of the lips. This treatment encourages production of new skin cells, promoting fuller, pinker and less lined lips. For stubborn lines, the laser can be used to precisely target specific areas.

How long do these procedures take?

Most lip augmentation procedures are very quick – lasting around 30 minutes. Numbing is always recommended. You may return to your daily activities as soon as you feel able to – however, the lips may remain a little pink. Bruising is usually unlikely.

How long does it last?

On average, lip fillers last for around 6 months. Results will vary based on age, lifestyle choices and skin type.

To prolong the effects, do not massage or rub the treated area (unless you are advised to). Try to avoid smoking, using straws or anything that puckers the lips for the first two days. It is wise to avoid excessive heat such as saunas, steam rooms or sunbathing for two days after the treatment.

As with any cosmetic procedure, your medical practitioner should conduct a thorough consultation beforehand. With Dr Melamed, you’ll be given a full consultation with advice, options and aftercare information – allowing you to make a fully informed decision about your treatment.
